Some of you probably know that every comic book hero has a backstory, explaining how they developed their super abilities through the adversity they endured and what inspires and motivates them to become the superhero they are...

 

This is the origin story of a hero. The HERO is YOU and lives inside of all of us.

Whilst growing up as a child, I noticed that I was not like the other kids in school and found it difficult to understand what teachers were trying to say, let alone what they were trying to teach. The teachers and kids bullied me, the kids left me out of games and I was picked on for being different. Every year on my report card it would be written that I used to daydream a lot when I was meant to be studying in class. I felt out of place and rejected by everyone.

 

The only time I felt joy and a sense of belonging was when I regularly visited the video rental shop with my dad to rent a film. Sitting next to him, with snacks at hand, the curtains drawn and a cinematic style experience created, so we both could escape to a fictitious, imaginative world of strange, fun and wonderful characters. I would feel safe and accepted for those ninety or so minutes.

I had always resonated with superheroes like Clark Kent (Superman) and Peter Parker (Spiderman) as they were outcasts, bullied and yet they had superpowers to protect and save the world from any danger.

What was my superpower?… And did I even have one?

In secondary school, I had a maths and science tutor. One day while teaching me, I was getting everything wrong then he turned to me in his frightening high pitched bass voice with great frustration and said “What’s the matter with you? Are you dyslexic? I did not know what dyslexic was. To me, at that moment I registered a look of disgust on his face as if I had a disease. I held onto what I believed was a disease for many years.

 

Throughout my adult life, I pretty much was living in other people’s shadows as I felt I did not belong and searching for a place where I could feel at home and accepted. My inner GPS was constantly keying in different destinations. This went on for many years trying and experimenting in different job roles, industries, fields, sectors and ventures.

My real journey began after a significant life changing experience when I felt there was something more to it for me than the usual mundane life I was living. Something was calling out for me. What was it? I don’t know. Just like Clark Kent, I went on a quest to search for my Fortress of Solitude to unlock and find my real superpowers.

 

After years of deep soul searching and introspection, I had been on a journey which took me around the world and back. Unfortunately, it was not all sunshine, rainbows and unicorns.

I had to go deep into my inner wounds and inner shadow where I had to stare at fear head-on in its face and put to rest what was not serving me.

 

Everything I had learnt and gained throughout the years, my experiences, stories and the knowledge, I began to share with everyone, in-person and online. Without realising, I had positively impacted many individuals through the expression of my vulnerability, who had reached out to me in person and online with their gratitude and explained how I had been able to change, make a shift within them and give them another chance at life.

 

I had connected to their core essence of love within their heart that shined a light on their darkness.  Just like Batman has his Bat-Signal, I had become some sort of beacon of Hope like the letter S on Superman’s chest.

I was reborn where I could finally rise like the phoenix from the ashes, spread my wings and reach for the stars where I discovered a magical life awaiting me. Discovering this changed my life not only for myself but for those around me enriching my relationship with myself and others which allowed me to show up in my true authentic self creating the abundance and opportunities that I would have only dreamed off.

 

Seeing, feeling and knowing this created an undeniable drive, passion and burning desire in wanting to coach, help, support and guide people who want to be empowered and inspired to find the light at the end of the tunnel and use it to produce amazing results in their lives. And for those who are searching for something deeper, richer and meaningful to create the shifts, results and manifestations for themselves and others. Also, to never settle for less than what they can be, do and have in their life and awaken the change-makers and thought leaders of our generation.

 

I had found my superpower and harnessed the strength of my vulnerability and dyslexia as some of my super abilities …

 

Now I can say I am a Superhero…
